Mezzo-soprano Olivia Cosío has been praised for her “enchantingly light, agile” voice (Salzburger Nachrichten) and “charismatic, even striking, stage presence” (San Francisco Classical Voice). She was most recently an ensemble member of the Salzburg Landestheater, making role debuts as Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos, Harper Pitt in Eötvös’ Angels in America, Mercédès in Carmen, Siébel in Faust, Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, and Zibaldona in Alma Deutscher’s Cinderella, for which she was nominated for the national Österreichischer Musiktheaterpreis (Austrian Music Theater Prize).

Prior to her work in Europe, Olivia made her professional debut as Rosina in The Barber of Seville with Opera Columbus and was a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theater of St. Louis. Olivia earned her Master’s of Music in Vocal Arts from The Juilliard School, where a touring production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas also brought her performances at London’s Holland Park, Versailles’ Opéra Royal, and the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to France. 

Passionate about art song, chamber music, and modern works, Olivia has performed with the New York Festival of Song, Bang on a Can Contemporary Music Festival, and was a two-time fellow with the Tanglewood Music Center. During her two fellowships at Tanglewood, Olivia performed Haydn’s Arianna a Naxos with the TMC Orchestra, sang Bach cantatas under the baton of John Harbison, premiered Michael Gandolfi’s In America and Sid Richardon’s Red Wind, and performed Susie in Bernstein’s A Quiet Place for which the Wall Street Journal noted her as “a standout.”

Olivia holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, a Master of Education from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory.
